Dear
Classmates,
How
time has flown! Can you believe that come September, we would actually
be forty years out of high school? Yes, Maryknoll HS '66 are the ruby
jubilarians this year. The big day is on Sept 9, 2006. Do mark it on
your calendar. It may seem a long way off but you know how the days
pass so quickly.
Two
meetings to prepare for the Sept. 9 event have been held so far at the
residence of Carrie Pineda-Ibarra. Our Liaison with MMCAA, Babot Aspiras-Oreta,
reported that this will be Maryknoll’s 80th Grand Annual Homecoming,
billed as VIVACE 80, taken from the root word Viva standing for VISION
AND VALUES FOR THE 21ST CENTURY.
We
do not have much time but this will not be an obstacle – this
the Organizing Committee will make sure of. Work by the different sub-committees
is already underway and to give you an update of what’s been achieved
so far:
Highlights
of Committee Reports:
Ways
and Means (Babot Aspiras-Oreta)
Babot reported that the class has so far raised P750,000.00 for the
Maryknoll-Miriam Endowment Fund. These funds will take care of renovation
of the auditorium, scholarships for needy and talented students, and
advanced studies for the faculty. This being our Ruby Jubilarian Year,
it was suggested we raise the initial target of P200,000.00 to P500,000.00
to be sourced largely through individual voluntary donations. Other
potential revenue-raising measures which the class can pursue without
much difficulty will be looked into. Beneficiaries of the fund-raising
activity will be the school’s Endowment Fund and selected class
projects including Operation Smile, Gawad Kalinga, a standby fund for
needy classmates. Proposed allocation for class projects will ultimately
depend on the amount of funds generated.
Finance
(Marlene Bautista–Piccio, Carrie Pineda–Ibarra)
“Our first donation comes from Tina Robinson – a P5000.00
check,” Carrie announced proudly during the first meeting of the
Organizing Committee. As in every jubilee year, we have our bankers
(now retired) to make sure donations are properly handled. So, expect
to hear from Carrie Ibarra and Marlene Piccio about the fund raising
drive. Monthly pledges or one-time donations of any amount will be most
welcome. And for classmates in the USA, contact person is Melinda Medina-Nagrampa.
Take note from the pictures that she was at the March 11 reunion, a
real surprise for everyone considering Melinda has been out of sight
for 40 years.
In
the absence of our own bank account, donations will be deposited to
the joint account of Class’66 and Class 70 at
Bank of Philippine Islands

But
no need to worry. Marlene and Carrie will see to it all Class ’66
donations are properly credited. For other info, you can contact Carrie

Communications
(Rica Enage-Villalon, Marita Tanjuatco, Ditas Garcia)
News bulletins on what’s happening, updating the Class Directory,
activating the class website goes to this committee. Rica has completed
almost 60% of the directory but needs our help in updating data of classmates
we haven’t seen for a long time. Now and then you’ll hear
her cry, “Hey girls, who knows how to get in touch with Perla
Perlas?” Yes, if there is any way you can help provide mobile
phone numbers, residence and email addresses, please email or sms Rica
Villalon (rica@villalon.com;
cellphone, 0917 839 7839)
Marita
and Ditas help out with the news bulletins; Babot, the printing. Should
the Committee take up the work of putting out a Souvenir, more help
from the class will be needed. Volunteers, please contact Marita (mpstan@jbdnet.com;
cellphone, 0917 528 7883)
If
you’re an avid phone user, there’s also a place for you.
You can follow up classmates to attend scheduled gatherings. This being
a class activity, it would really help to get everyone involved in every
way.
Fellowship
(Babot Aspiras-Oreta, Cindy Corpus-Albert, Pinky
Fontanilla-Tanjangco, Lulu Guzman-Sotto, Manet Yuson-Cortez, Tina Roces-Garcia,
Ete Pastoral Caruncho, Dodie Marfori-Villa Abrille)
We’re doing away with the usual meetings or dinners to bring people
together. Instead, the Fellowship Committee intends to focus on special
activities – out of town picnics, watching plays, etc –
that will help promote awareness, interest and participation for the
Ruby Jubilee. In addition, expect a Grand Homecoming with classmates
from Grade School all the way to College, whether graduates of Maryknoll
or not. Babot is excited with this concept. So, be prepared to see old
friends like Amparito de Villa, Elaine Silva, Wally Ledesma…
